Slender Cattail features thin, grass-like, green leaves and is generally shorter, typically growing 3-5 feet (1-1.5m) tall, making it more manageable for garden ponds.

It produces proportionally slender, elegant, dark brown, cylindrical seed heads in summer. These are attractive in floral arrangements both fresh and dried and offer winter interest in the garden.

A good choice for smaller water features or where a less dominant cattail is desired, it still offers benefits to wildlife such as cover and nesting material. It is hardy and relatively low-maintenance.

Prefers full sun and shallow water (2-6 inches deep) or consistently moist soil. While still spreading by rhizomes, it is usually less aggressive than larger Typha species.
